It seems that people are always getting killed, or getting themselves hurt. I get so sad about this and just want to get on with my life. I want to escape into a world where the good guys always get the bad guys and good people get a happy ending. Of course, I know this is not reality, and because of my job, I have got to get going with real life. So I get my happy ending from a good book or TV show, and then get working on something meaningful to help my students get away from their problems with English.<\/p>\n<h1>Time to go Deeper<\/h1>\n<p>In my first post about how \u201cget\u201d is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollytreeenglish.com\/get-little-verb-everything\/\">little verb that does everything<\/a>, I showed you many uses of this little word. But now it is time to really start learning the different meanings of \u201cget.\u201d In my little paragraph you saw a picture of where we are going.<\/p>\n<h1>Making Things Simpler<\/h1>\n<p>The way that I like to make this complicated little verb simpler is to divide the meanings of get in to verb groups. You already know that there are different kinds of verbs in english, or you will learn this when\u00a0you study more. The verbs have different jobs in English sentences. \u201cGet\u201d is able to do many of these jobs. Here is a list of the main groups where you will find the word \u201cget\u201d with examples from my paragraph.<\/p>\n<h1>Verb Groups<\/h1>\n<p>main verb<\/p>\n<p>I get so sad about this\u2026<\/p>\n<p>I want to escape into a world where the good guys always get the bad guys and good people get a happy ending.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026get going with real life.<\/p>\n<p>So I get my happy ending from a good book or TV show, and then get working on something meaningful\u2026<\/p>\n<p>phrasal verb<\/p>\n<p>and just want to get on with my life.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026to help my students get away from their problems with English.<\/p>\n<p>passive verb<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes I get very tired of watching, reading, or listening to the news.<\/p>\n<p>It seems that people are always getting killed,\u2026<\/p>\n<p>causative verb<\/p>\n<p>or getting themselves hurt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201chave got\u201d constructions<\/p>\n<p>Of course, I know this is not reality, and because of my job, I have got to\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The last thing on the list is because \u201chave got\u201d and \u201chave got to\u201d are in other groups of verbs, but they are a little more strange than other uses of \u201cget.\u201d<\/p>\n<h1>Your Turn<\/h1>\n<p>Now it\u2019s your turn.
