Even when my parents didn’t get me, and other teenagers didn’t get me, I felt like she always got what I was feeling and knew how to help me with my problems. She is still my good friend, and she still gets me. even better, she helps me when I don’t get my own feelings. Do you have a friend who gets you like that?

Main Verbs

In my last post, the first verb group that I listed was main verbs. Main verbs are verbs that sho an action or a state of being. Get can be used to replace, or as a synonym for many main verbs. This post will tell you about the easiest meaning of “get.”

Get = Understand

The easiest synonym to learn for “get” is “understand.” It means to understand in a general way, with your mind. And it means to understand something in a deep way, with your mind and heart.

General Understanding

For example, my first post about using “get” was just to help you get, (understand), the idea that “get” is a big topic and very important. The post was not written to help you learn everything about “get,.” I just wanted you to get, or understand the topic in a general way.

Deep Understanding

My friend understood me in a deep way when i was a teenager and she still understands me.

When I was a teenager, I had a very good friend who really got me.

She is still my good friend, and she still gets me.

Another Common use

Another common use of this meaning is with jokes. When we understand them and laugh at them, we can say that we get the jokes. Not many people get jokes when I tell them, but when I make a joke about the situation, people usually get it. I especially love it when my students get my humor.

Your Turn

And now it is time for you to practice. What sentence/s can you make using this meaning of “get?” And can you answer the question from the paragraph at the beginning of the post? Do you have a friend or relative who really gets you?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kb6iRw0b-JU

My Good Friend When I was a teenager, I had a very good friend who really got me.
