One of the meanings of the strange little verb “get” is “receive.” But if you only have this knowledge in your head, you will not be able to use it well. You need to practice. Here is a list of conversation questions that you can use to practice using “get” to mean “receive.”

  • Do you enjoy getting or giving gifts more? Why?
  • Do you think only children should get gifts on holidays? Why?
  • What are 3 things you got last Christmas/New Year?
  • What is the craziest gift you have ever gotten?
  • What is the best gift you have ever gotten?
  • What is the worst gift you have ever gotten?
  • What did you get for your last birthday?
  • What do you hope you will get for your next birthday?
  • What do you enjoy getting for your birthday?
  • Do you get flowers from your husband or wife?
  • Do you get flowers from your boyfriend or girlfriend?
  • Do you get letters in the mail?
  • Do you get a lot of email every day?
  • Do you, or did you, get a lot of homework in school?
  • What do you get when you work hard: money, compliments, etc?
